Landmark Activities

Thursday morning, December 1, 2016, residents and staff welcomed students and church leaders from Trinity Christian School to The Landmark Center. Residents were entertained with beautiful Christmas Carols sung by their guests. The students also gave each resident a handmade Christmas card. Thank you so much for visiting with our residents. In the afternoon, residents and guests took part in the final Community Rook Tournament of 2016. Winners were Larry Vernon, Elizabeth Goard, and Margarite Roudabush. Thank you to volunteers, Jim and Ellen Saunders, and Daniel Quesenberry, Activities, for coordinating this event. After dinner, residents welcomed the group, Two Old and Two Young to The Landmark Center, for great guitar picking and singing.

    Singer, Mike Hall, entertained Landmark residents Friday evening, December 2, with beautiful Southern Gospel music.

    In addition to the bus, for the first time ever, The Landmark Center and Blue Ridge Therapy Connection entered a float in the Stuart Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 3; the theme was, A Winter Wonderland. Thank you to everyone who participated to make this event possible.

    Members of the Risen Lord Catholic Church sang Christmas Carols to the Landmark residents Sunday afternoon, December 4. The group went door to door to sing; the only thing missing was “falling snow.” Thank you for thinking of us at the special time of the year.

    A favorite activity at The Landmark Center is the monthly Square Dance which in always on the first Monday night of the month. Residents love the music played by the Over the Hill Gang and watching the square dancers perform, often joining in on the fun.

    The community Family Education Series continued on Monday, December 5, with their regular monthly program. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month, (December meeting scheduled on Monday night due to conflict), 6:00-8:00 pm, at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection, in the Recreation room. This series covers many topics affecting families and caregivers who are currently caring for a senior citizen. Light refreshments will be provided.

    Operation Homefront held their monthly meeting on December 6, at The Landmark Center. If you served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America you are invited to attend these meeting which are held on the first Tuesday of each month, 9:00-10:00 am, in the Landmark living room. For more information, contact Susan Foster at (276) 694-4416. This event is sponsored by Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. Light refreshment will be provided. Residents traveled to Floyd, December 6, and purchased fresh baked goods to share with their friends at Landmark.

    Tuesday evening, December 6, community guests, families, staff, and residents celebrated the 20th anniversary of The Landmark Center. Victor Williams shared with those in attendance the history of The Landmark Center and how his parents, Dorn and Dae Williams, designed and decorated the facility. Several staff members were recognized for their faithful years of service: Janet Holt, Doris Martin, Sandra Harris, and Patricia Thomas. Also honored was resident, Mildred Stanley, and Wanda Jones, CNA, for being at The Landmark Center the longest. Refreshments were provided by Landmark Catering.

    December 8, residents ate breakfast at a local restaurant. In the afternoon they enjoyed refreshments as they sang along with Collinsville Country. After dinner, residents welcomed the group, Almost There. Thank you for sharing this special time of year with the Landmark residents.

    The Alzheimer’s Support Group meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at noon, at The Landmark Center. For more information call (276) 694-3050 or (276) 694-7161. This program is sponsored by Southern Area Agency on Aging, The Landmark Center, and Blue Ridge Therapy Connection. A light lunch is provided.
