Landmark Activities

Thursday, April 13, residents welcomed local community artist to The Landmark Center for the Community Art Class. Residents were assisted in covering flower pots with a collage of beautiful spring flowers which they cut from magazines. Residents always enjoy this activity and now they have a beautiful pot in which they can plant a flower from the Greenhouse in to enjoy in their rooms. After lunch, residents were entertained by the group, Collinsville Country in the living room. Residents were then invited to an Easter Party were they enjoyed delicious refreshments provided by Landmark Catering and the dietary staff. In the evening residents were uplifted by gospel music by Almost There.

    Pastor Norman Biggs led a Good Friday Communion Service on April 14. Bread and grape juice were given to the residents in reference to the broken body and shed blood of Jesus for our sins. We appreciate the service of all of the ministers who share their time and talents to inspire our residents. In the evening, Roger Wells entertained the residents with beautiful southern Gospel music.

    Community children and parents attended the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection Saturday, April 15. In addition to the big egg hunt, the children were treated to a visit with the Easter Bunny, an Easter Parade through Blue Ridge Therapy Connection, which led to decorated cookies and punch, a bouncy house, and candy filled eggs. The staff of Blue Ridge Therapy Connection and The Landmark Center, along with the children, always look forward to this event.

    Monday, April 17, was National Cheeseball Day; residents celebrated the day with a delicious cheeseball and crackers provided by the Landmark dietary staff.

    Residents traveled to the local Mexican restaurant for lunch, Tuesday, April 18. Thursday, April 20, they attended an Adult Coloring Class at the local library. April 25, residents went to a local restaurant for a Frosty. They enjoyed breakfast out locally on Thursday morning.

    Jim Purcell and Lynn Wolf led a resident sing-a-long on Friday morning, April 21. Mr. Purcell plays the guitar and residents join in and sing tunes from long ago. He also shares the history of many of the selections he plays. Residents often reminiscence about many of the songs played. In the afternoon, residents and guests celebrated the April birthdays with cake, ice cream, and punch. Birthday gifts were donated by Brenda Howard. After dinner entertainment was provided by Chords of Faith.

    A new activity added this month is provided by a group from Harvest Worship Center. Members from the church come and share their time and faith with the residents of The Landmark Center by reading scripture and prayer. They also bring gifts to the residents which are made at Children’s Church. We appreciate all of our volunteers for everything you do.

    Other volunteers include Sue Nester and the Youth Group from Abiding Grace Church.

    The BIG Greenhouse is now open! The greenhouse is located between The Landmark Center and Blue Ridge Therapy Connection. For more information call (276) 694-3050.

    The next Alzheimer’s Support Group Meeting will be held May 23, 2017, at The Landmark Center in the multipurpose room. The meeting will begin at noon and a light lunch will be provided. This program is sponsored by Southern Area Agency on Aging, The Landmark Center, and Blue Ridge Therapy Connection. For more information, call (276) 694-3050.
