With the hot temperatures we have been having the last week; we have to go outside on the patio early in the mornings and late in the afternoons. But as long as we can get outside for some fresh air and sunshine our residents are happy. In the mornings we like to have patio exercise and play games. In the afternoons we just like to enjoy the cooler temperatures and maybe have some refreshments and reminisce about the good old days.
This past week, we celebrated Hawaii. We had a luau in our West Wing dining room. The room was set up with a water and beach scene while our residents felt they might have been at the beach. They got to learn about the history of the islands and some fun facts about them too. It’s always exciting for our residents to learn new things and to experience the foods of different cultures. When you think of Hawaii you think of pineapples, so they were served pineapple upside down cake with nonalcoholic Blue Hawaii drinks. Our dietary team is always so wonderful to prepare all these delicious foods and drinks when we request them. Sue Forrest, activities assistant, dressed up in a grass skirt during the activity. Each resident was given a lei when they entered the dining room. The mood was very festive and the residents had a wonderful time!
This week the residents had a Banana Split Afternoon and we celebrated residents who were born in July with our monthly Birthday Party. We would like to thank the area churches for supplying our residents with a gift. This month Sycamore Baptist Church provided the gifts. Each month with their donations, it puts smiles on many of our resident’s faces, because many of them don’t have family members to bring them a gift. It lets them know their special day wasn’t forgotten.
Our weekly bus trips are still one of the resident’s favorite activities. This week they went riding around the county and they got to go to Golden Corral. So many of them love eating at the Golden Corral, it’s one of the places they want to go to monthly. Next week we will be going to Stuart Family Restaurant and riding around the county. We try very hard to get all those residents who want to go out put on the list so everyone will have a turn to go out on a trip.
If you or your group would like to perform for our residents, please call 276-694-7161 ext. 1804 and ask for Dee Dee. We would love to put you on our calendar!
