Blue Ridge Therapy Connection Activities

As summer slowly passes, the residents have been enjoying their time outside on the patio. We have been reminiscing, playing games and just enjoying the outdoors late in the afternoon with a glass of lemonade.  With fall coming soon, we are working on our art work and making new art work so we can enter it in the fair. We look forward to going to the fair each year; seeing how many ribbons the resident won, getting to eat outside and visiting with many of our friends who are also attending the fair.

We are planning to have a Western Week in September.  We will be making our own horses to enter in a horse race game and we are planning for our bus trips to go along with the western theme.  It’s been awhile since we went to Kanawha Valley and the residents always loved going to visit with Tommy Brown. We are also planning trips to Dippers for ice cream, Cookout in Mt. Airy and a picnic. We will also be going to Mabry Mill, Golden Corral and Wal-Mart for our monthly shopping trip. We always look forward to our bus trips and having a good time with the residents.

This past week, we took the residents on an around about bus trip up through the Dobyns area. One of our resident told us she was from that area and her parents ran a mill. During our trips, we get to learn a lot about our residents and their past life. We also went to Stuart Family Restaurant which is one of their favorite places to eat. The staff there is so good to us and they always have us a large table for all of us to sit at so we can all eat together.  They are very friendly, have great  service and great food. We all enjoy going there!

We have already started planning for the rest of the year. We have many new ideas and activities we hope our residents and family members will enjoy. It’s hard to believe it’s already the end of summer, so we have already started thinking about Christmas. This is a very busy month for our residents and staff members. But we like to have a good time and with planning,  we hope the residents have a great Christmas.

If you or your group would like to perform for the residents or just volunteer your time, please call at 276-694-7161 ext. 1804 and we would love to put you on our calendar!
