Jim Purcell and Lynn Wolf led the residents in a sing-a-long, Friday morning, September 15. In the afternoon, Landmark residents celebrated the September birthdays at the monthly birthday party. Residents enjoyed cake, ice cream, and punch as they listened to party music. Birthday gifts were donated by Patrick Springs Church of God of Prophecy. Evening entertainment was provided by the Chords of Faith.
As National Assisted Living Week came to an end on September 16, family members joined their resident for brunch. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was inviting to Landmark residents and their guests. White tablecloths covered the dining room tables and handmade lamp shades covered wine glasses filled with fall candies and a candle adorned the center of the table. Thank you to Jonathan and the dietary staff for making this event special.
I want to thank everyone who supported the resident raffle for autism! Winners were drawn on Saturday, September 16. Gary Biggs won the $30 gift certificate donated by Honduras Coffee Shop and Doretta Willard won the 32” Led Roku TV. All money raised will be donated to Autism Speaks for research.
Memory Care residents traveled to Mount Airy, NC September 20 for lunch, and on September 27, the destination was Bassett for pizza.
Students from the Senior Cosmetology class at Patrick County High School provided Landmark residents with manicures and conversation, September 19. Each year we welcome a new group of students which will soon become new friends with the residents. After dinner, local singer Sue Nester, sang for the residents.
Residents traveled to the Patrick County Fair on Wednesday evening, September 20. They loved visiting all the vendors, especially the Landmark Group with the big rooster. They also enjoyed listening to the music which was provided by local talent. Other bus trips have included local shopping, September 19, and shopping in Martinsville, September 21.
Residents and staff from Highland Ridge Rehab Center joined the Landmark residents on September 22, for lunch and Bingo. Everyone enjoyed getting to know each other during lunch and competing to win as they played Bingo. We are already planning a return visit in November!
Active Aging Week began on September 24; throughout the week we had special activities to celebrate our residents. Sunday, September 24, residents and guests were served Cherries Jubilee. Monday afternoon, September 25, Jonathan provided a cooking demonstration for the residents. Tuesday morning, residents welcomed Glenda Biggs and her antique tools for a fun and challenging tool guessing game. Staff, residents, and family members accepted the challenge with the residents coming out on top. Tuesday was also the 55th Anniversary of the Beverly Hillbillies, residents competed in a “washing day relay,” Granny the doctor, and making soap event. Bus trips included burgers and shakes in Mount Airy, NC, and lunch In Martinsville, September 28. Every afternoon we walked and recorded a prayer for each step for our community, country, and families.
The Landmark Center sponsored a free to the community, Lunch and Learn, Financial Planning for Senior Living, September 28, 2017. The program was presented by John P. Abadie, Financial Advisor, representing Edward Jones.
