Landmark Activities

Christmas is a busy time of the year and The Landmark Center is no exception.  Residents welcome Christmas carolers from local churches, students from Trinity Christian School, and the Community Christmas Choir. They also enjoyed carols performed by Mike Hall, Sue Nester, Chords of Faith, the Mountain View Singers, and youth from Abiding Grace Church. Special thanks to employees from the local Walmart for remembering our residents at this special time of the year.

Residents and their families were honored with a special dinner at The Landmark Center, December 9, 2017. Family members joined their resident for a delicious dinner and music, provided by Judy and Ralph.

Taking bus trips are always fun and residents have been on the go traveling to various locations in and around Patrick County. Bus trips include, Floyd on December 14 to shop for homemade bread, lunch in Mount Airy, December 19, a ride-a-bout to view the Christmas lights, December 21, and eating breakfast locally on December 26. January 2, 2018, residents enjoyed lunch at a local restaurant and shopping on January 4.

Wednesday, December 20, the Patrick County Alzheimer’s Group LLC, along with Santa and his Elf, celebrated Christmas with Landmark residents. Each resident received a gift from Santa and delicious refreshments were provided by the Alzheimer’s Group. Santa’s Elf led the residents in singing carols including the Twelve Days of Christmas. We would like to thank this busy group for the party and all the hard work they do throughout the year to raise money to provided items for local Alzheimer’s patients. The next Alzheimer’s Support Group Meeting at The Landmark Center will be January 23, 2018, beginning at noon. This program is sponsored by Southern Area Agency on Aging, The Landmark Center, and Blue Ridge Therapy Connection. For more information, call (276) 694-3050, ext. 4501. A light lunch will be provided.

Thursday, December 21, residents welcomed Jim and Ellen Saunders for a special time of music and refreshments.

Landmark residents were treated to their very own Christmas party on Friday evening, December 22. Everyone was encouraged to wear red to the party; they enjoyed music and refreshments.

December 28, residents were invited to Winter Games. It was at this time several of us realized we did not know how to cut out a snowflake.  We all laughed at each other’s attempts and made a huge mess with each snowflake attempt. Finally, Daniel asked Google how to cut out a snowflake; they looked a little better, still not perfect. Other games included how many marshmallows can you stack in a tablespoon, who could draw the best snowman, and a snowball fight, using marshmallows. Thank you to the housekeeping staff for cleaning up our mess.

New Comers were welcomed to The Landmark Center, December 29, with brunch. Those attending warmed up with coffee and Danishes. Residents said good-by to 2017, and welcomed 2018, on December 31, with a New Year’s Eve party. All of us from The Landmark Center would like to wish everyone a very happy and blessed new year.
