Landmark Activities

Residents enjoyed music by Jim Purcell and Lynn Wolf, Friday morning, March 16, 2018. After lunch, residents and guests celebrated the March birthdays with cake, ice cream, and punch. Birthday presents were donated by Fairystone Baptist Church.

Saturday, March 17, Landmark residents were treated to “Lucky Floats” and challenged with puzzles in recognition of Saint Patrick’s Day. Sunday was National Oatmeal Cookie Day, residents and guests enjoyed oatmeal raisin cookies.

Although the weather has been very uncooperative, Landmark residents have managed to eat breakfast out locally March 20 and attend Bingo, March 22, at the local library.  Tuesday, March 27, residents traveled to Mount Airy, NC, for lunch and on March 29 they enjoyed Mexican locally.

March 20, 2018, Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care along with The Landmark Center presented Five Wishes, a Living Will which talks about your personal, emotional and spiritual needs as well as your medical wishes. This is a time when you can talk with your family, friends and doctor about how you wish to be treated if you are seriously ill. For more information, contact Kim Chitwood, RN Hospice Nurse Liaison at (276) 732-7872 or Bren Hankins, Outreach Provider Representative at (276) 226-3221. This is your life; make your wishes known!

Once again the community children were invited to the Blue Ridge Therapy Connection for the annual Easter egg hunt. March 24. After the welcome by Victor Williams and a prayer by Reverend Jim Churchwell, over 3000 eggs were hidden in the hallways for the children to hunt. The Blue Ridge Bell Choir performed a variety of songs and refreshments were enjoyed by all. Also Peter Rabbit was on hand for pictures. This event was hosted by Blue Ridge Therapy Connection, The Landmark Center Assisted Living and Memory Care neighborhoods.

The residents always look forward to our musical guests. Tuesday, March 20, they welcomed Sue Nester and on March 22 entertainment was provided by the Community Choir.

A journey which began at The Landmark Center in October 2017 came to an end on Saturday, March 24, 2018, with the Empty Bowls Fundraiser to fight hunger in Patrick County. Landmark residents were the first to make bowls with the assist of local artists Ursula Allen and Norma Bozenmayer, during the monthly Community Art Class. Residents designed and painted their bowls in a later class. We are so thankful that we could be a part of this event!

Children from the Patrick Springs Head Start Program were our guests at The Landmark Center, March 27, for an Easter Egg Hunt. Residents gathered together in the Landmark living room to witness all the excitement. I think the children set a new record; five hundred Easter eggs in less than five minutes! After all the eggs were found the children thanked the residents for inviting them into their homes with a BIG hug and a BIG thank you. I have a big thank you to their teacher, Mary Quesenberry, and all of the other helpers.

Thank you to “Hannah and Her Sisters Seniors Group” from the Fellowship Church in Ararat and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the beautiful handcrafted Easter Cards sent to our residents.
