Landmark Activities

Easter Sunday and April Fool’s Day fell on the same day this year, which added double the fun for the day. After all the work the residents had completed the past week helping the activity team prepare eggs for the Easter egg hunt for the children, it was finally their turn to have some fun and have an Easter egg hunt of their own Sunday afternoon, April 1st. Many residents turned out to relive their youth and have a good time racing around the building hunting eggs. Afterwards, everyone got together to count their eggs and find out who had the “special” eggs to receive prizes. To throw in an April Fool’s Joke, we added a “rotten” egg and the winner received a special rotten egg hat. It was fun listening to the residents reminisce about Easters past. Residents enjoyed snacks after the egg hunt. (Provided by Laura Peltier, Activity Assistant)

Susan Lytle, from Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, led the Operation Homefront meeting April 3, 2018. If you served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America you are invited to join the Landmark residents, the first Tuesday of the month, 9-10 am, at The Landmark Center. This meeting provides a time to connect, support, and recognize our local heroes. For more information, contact Susan at (276) 694-4416. Refreshments are provided. The next scheduled meeting will be May 1, 2018. Later, the residents traveled to Bassett Forks for lunch. After dinner, entertainment was provided by the multitalented group, F.A.R.M. T.E.A.M.

Thursday morning Landmark resident shopped locally; upon returning home they attended a worship service provided by new volunteer, David Brandon. In the afternoon, residents gathered in the arts and crafts room, and decorated Easter eggs. Margaret Stegall, resident, shared a new technique by mixing paint in the palm of her hands, which gave the eggs a “tie-dyed” look. Two Old and Two Young provided music after dinner.

New residents were welcomed to The Landmark Center April 6, with brunch and a visit by Daniel’s grandson, “Bubs”. There’s something about a child that can put a huge smile on your face. The residents enjoyed the beautiful Southern Gospel music provided by Mike Hall in the evening.

Over the weekend, Pastor Dave Boarman and church members from Jack’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church, provided uplifting worship thru word and song.

Residents traveled to Madison, NC., April 10, for a seafood lunch. The trees are beginning to bloom and are turning many shades of green; the ride is almost as good as the food. Beth Ford, Historical Services Assistant, and Becki Turner, volunteer, both from the Reynolds Homestead located in Critz, VA., led the monthly Art Fusion Discussion Group. The “theme” for this month was “having fun while exercising”. Beth shared her baton twirling talent with the residents; they loved her demonstration. As usual, Beth and Becki did a great job and the residents always enjoy sharing memories with the group. Mountain View UMC provided beautiful worship songs in the evening.

Thursday, April 12, residents ate breakfast out locally. They then joined local artist, Ursula Allen and Sherry Easter Brooks, for the Community Art Class.  Ursula assisted the residents as they created one of a kind Greeting Cards using a collage of shapes and colors.

In the afternoon, Collinsville Country shared an hour of music and fun with the Landmark residents.
